He and she, a couple, two spiritual travellers, they pay attention to landscapes, and concern about lives as well. They accept the nature's greatest marvels in person. Close to nature, they return to their inner world from the nature, then project the different stages of their lives onto the art works. Renke is pleased to present the dual solo exhibition of works by Zhang Hao and Bao Fengxia.

PREFACE

Zhang Hao’s and Bao Fengxia’s life and art are unique. They present the true and genuine power of a generation, with the enthusiasm and innocence of youth, they enjoy the honing of art. Zhang Hao’s early work draws nourishment from the folk and the tradition, from 1985 to 1999, he created large amount of work, and held solo exhibition in Nanjing, Shanghai, Chongqing and Hangzhou. Until he attended the Shanghai biennale in 2000, his artistic languages had new breakthroughs and innovations, started his contemporary ink painting stage. The reason for this important change is that he has found an important meaning in the existence of Chinese ink art – using China’s unique brush and ink, along with the traditional calligraphy methods and contemporary visual languages, to express the spirit world and to build a space witch fulfilled with contemporary soul.  The trip to Europe had change Bao Fengxia’s life at her thirties. She started to know art and to create oil paintings. The imaginative and creative masterpieces of the Louvre, Orsay Museum, the Centre Pompidou, Picasso Museum, and all other European museums always touched her. She and Zhang Hao always wandered the streets of Paris. She was obsessed with the glow of the beige building that shone in the quiet sunlight, and she had a long curiosity about the colorful and quaint architecture of the European town. The history and people of these architectures make her imagine and always amazed.

People asked Socrates where did he came from, he answered that he didn’t came from Athens but the world. And I think Zhang Hao’s ink Painting are not only China oriented but also international.  The reason why his ink paintings are so unique is because he chooses to express the most important things. The work the Baptism of Spirit focused on spirit and soul, his continuous seeking and feeling show the unique spirit world of ink art. He uses the contemporary visual form and his own visual language to express spirit and soul. The spirit connotation inside Zhang hao’s work is stunning, his spiritual journey dwelling on the thoughts between oneself and the society, individual and the public, material and soul. He has been the world and seen the world, but retain a holistic understanding of human ecology, therefore, he also retains enough horizon, perception and comprehension.

An artist spends his whole life dealing with the relationship between cultural tradition and personal reality. Personal feelings are the primary factor in achieving balance between the rules of language and individual freedom, there are no abstract and pure humanity, and only in a figurative living environment one’s feeling can show the artist’s sincerity and passion because of the pertinence and conflict. The movements of ink and brush triggered the shock of the soul. Zhang Hao stood alone in the flowing time thinking, the fragmented memories swirl around in his mind while the ink formed a mass of blooming.
